In data de 17 ianuarie a.c. s-au implinit 20 de ani de la trecerea in nefiinta a omului politic, avocat si publicist, Ion Ratiu.
S-a nascut la 6 iunie 1917 la Turda.
In 1940 a parasit Romania, obtinand azil politic in Anglia. S-a reintors in tara dupa Revolutia anticomunista din 1989, candidand si la alegerile din 20 mai 1990 pentru functia de Presedinte al Romaniei. In exil a infiintat mai multe Asociatii si a fost Presedintele Uniunii Mondiale a Romanilor Liberi (UMRL). A fost unul din Membrii Benefactors ai Academiei Americano-Romane de Arte si Stiinte (ARA) din SUA . A fost unul dintre conducatorii de baza ai opozitiei, alaturi de Corneliu Coposu, luptand pentru o Romanie libera si democrata.
On January 17th, 2020 we celebrated 20 years since the passing of Ion Ratiu, politician, lawyer and publicist.
He was born in Turda on June 6, 1917. In 1940, he left Romania, getting political asylum in England. He returned to his country after the Romanian Revolution from 1989. He ran for the presidency of Romania during the May 20th, 1990 elections. During his exile, he set up more associations and he was the President of the World Union of Free Romanians (UMRL). He was one of the Benfactors of the American Romanian Academy of Arts and Sciences (ARA) from USA. He was one of the leading members of the opposition, together with Corneliu Coposu, fighting for a free and democratic Romania.
